The first time in the history of Montenegro birds from the area of Montenegro received rings with the sign ’’Montenegro’’. The project of marking of birds of Natural History Museum is supported by Telenor mobile phone recycle campaign. In the presence of the officials of the Ministry for environmental protection, Environmental Protection Agency and Natural History Museum, journalists, citizens and emloyeers in Telenor-Kristofer Laska, executive director of Telenor, marked the first bird with the sign MNE.

Telenor started mobile phone recycle project ’’Old phone, Now life’’ in October 2009, with an aim of environmental preservation, education and raising ecological awareness. Telenor put 1 euro for each collected old mobile phone for recycle in the fund for support of Montenegrin Natural History Museum projects. Until today, over 30000 old mobile phones have been collected.

In organisation of Telenor and Natural History Museum of Montenegro, whole day of bird marking happened on Plavnica. It is promotional marking so that the public could meet with the significance of the project and marking process, and to attrack more volounteers which will do that also in future and help ornitologists, which is greatly practise in the world.

Executive director Kristofer Laska had an honour to mark the bird first with MNE ring:
’’    We are greatly satisfied with the results of the mobile phone recycle campaign with which we enabled the implementation of more projects in the area of environmental protection, and one of them is bird marking on Skadar lake. This action is of scientific significance and ornitologists can now know exactly where birds live, theis age and where they reproduce. Those data help in birds research, not only in Montenegro but in whole world. I’m very pleased that we from Telenor contributed to this project. I am honoured to be the first one who put the ring with the MNE sign.’’

There are over 250 bird species on Skadar lake, which means that is the best location for ornitologists to do researches. Organizers from Natural History Museum put special nets for bird catching  for the needs of this project , in order to do their measuring and marking with MNE ring. All present saw the nets and had the opportunity to mark the birds.
