Quality of bathing water
Chapter V of the Environmental Law defines monitoring of segments of the environment. Within the monitoring of marine ecosystem, monitoring of the quality of bathing water is being performed. Environmental Protection Agency and Public Enterprise for Coastal Zone Management established an agreement on joint implementation and development of the Program of monitoring sanitary quality of sea water at public beaches during the summer tourist season in 2010 as an integral part of the environmental monitoring of Montenegro. The present Agreement contains a common interest that in addition to monitoring of the sanitary quality of water in public swimming areas, a single database on the quality of sea water is established, as well as that it:
- Performs reporting towards national and international organizations;
- Adequately informs the public;
- Carries out control of potential sources of contamination on a regular basis.
According to the Regulation on classification and categorization of surface and ground water (Official Gazette MNE, no.02/07), water which can be used for swimming shall be classified into two classes, namely:
1) Class K1- excellent,
2) Class K2 - satisfactory
